Hair loss in women can be of different types. If it is temporary, it will grow back once the problem is solved or once the phase is over. However, in case of hair loss due to a genetic problem such as alopecia aerate, the hair loss may not stop and even if it does, fresh hair may not grow back in its place. When this happens, you will start losing confidence and may be even go into depression.

Causes of Hair Loss

While losing anywhere between 50 to 100 strands of hair is normal, anything above this is considered as a hair loss. This can happen due to any of the following conditions:

Telogen Effluvium:

This condition might occur soon after pregnancy, after you have undergone a drastic weight loss, when you are under extreme stress or after you have gone through a major surgery.

Hereditary Hair Loss:

This is generally referred to as androgenetic alopecia, which occurs because of a gene that you may have inherited from one of your parents. It may start when you are in your 20s and develop slowly as you age.

Hypothyroidism:

Under production of thyroid hormone fails to supply enough oxygen to your body so as to help the growth of your nails, skin and hair. As a result your hair becomes brittle and breaks easily.

Lupus:

This is an autoimmune disease wherein the immune system of your body attacks the healthy tissues of your body. As a result even your hair follicles would be affected.

Anemia with Iron Deficiency:

Very heavy menstruation and not eating iron-rich foods can lead to iron deficiency in many women. The lack of red blood cells would mean not enough oxygen being transported to the cells of your body. Therefore, you may start losing hair.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome:

This is a condition that is caused by hormonal imbalances, where in the ovaries start producing too much of testosterone, which is the male hormone. While you may face lot of hair growth in other parts of your body, the hair on your head will start falling in this condition.

Skin Conditions of Scalp:

Skin conditions such as psoriasis, fungal infections and dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis may cause hair fall in many cases.

Alopecia Areata:

This is an autoimmune disorder which is triggered off by an illness or stress.

Excessive Styling:

Too much of styling, dyeing or even shampooing can also cause your hair to weaken and break or fall out. The hair fall here is generally due to a combination of treatments such as hair coloring, keratin as well as blow drying.

Symptoms of Hair loss:

Hair loss may start with a few strands of your hair breaking or falling out while you are shampooing, blow drying or brushing your hair. You may face hair thinning just behind your bangs which might increase, affecting your entire scalp. In some cases you may even come across a few patches on your scalp where there is no hair.

Diagnosis of Hair Loss:

scalp_femaleThe cause of hair loss needs to be diagnosed before starting the hair loss treatment. If it is due to a temporary reason such as hormonal imbalances, a major surgery, certain medications, nutritional disorders or certain illnesses, proper treatment may help solve the problem. In any other case the doctor may advise for a blood test and even a biopsy of your scalp to diagnose the exact reason behind your hair loss.

Scalp Transplant Procedure:

In the Scalp Transplant procedure, hair follicles are extracted from the donor area, which is usually the back of your head and then transplanted on to the area of your scalp where you are experiencing extreme hair thinning. FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation is the sophisticated technique that is used to transplant more number of hair grafts.

How it works

  • Local Anesthetic is applied to the donor area after which a single strip of tissue is removed with the use of a precision tool.
  • Follicular unit grafts are isolated from this strip of tissue and dissected into units of 1, 2, 3 and 4
  • The donor area is then covered with absorbable sutures or staples as the doctor decides
  • The recipient area is then prepared with a local anesthetic and creation of tiny incisions, where the grafts will be placed
  • The prepared grafts are then placed within these incisions taking care to follow the direction and positioning of the existing hair, exactly.

Cost of Scalp Transplant:

The exact cost of scalp transplant depends on the existing amount of hair on your scalp, the number of grafts you will require and the kind of density you wish to achieve. This will vary from person to person. In order to determine this cost, you can give us a call and fix up an appointment with one of our specialists for a free consultation session, during which you will know everything there is to know about scalp transplant.
